Initial Concerns
& Referral
Concerns about a child’s social, communication, or behavioral development are noted by parents, caregivers, or teachers. Initial screenings like the M-CHAT are conducted, and the child may be referred for evaluation.
Comprehensive Diagnostic Evaluation
A specialist (like a pediatrician or psychologist) conducts a detailed assessment including interviews and standardized diagnostic tests to evaluate for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
Formal Diagnosis
After a thorough evaluation, a diagnosis is made if the child meets the DSM-5 criteria for ASD, specifying the level of support needed and identifying any additional conditions.
Recommendations & Treatment Planning
Following diagnosis, a treatment plan is developed, potentially including therapies like occupational therapy or Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).
ABA Therapy Assessment
A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) assesses the child to identify their strengths, challenges, and specific behaviors to target in therapy. Goals are set and a Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) is formulated.
Start of ABA Therapy
ABA therapy commences as per the treatment plan in various settings, like home or school. Progress is regularly monitored and the treatment plan is adjusted as needed, with collaboration between all involved parties ensuring a customized and effective approach.
